Top 5 Bioenergy Companies in Social Media: Successful Penetration of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn
This guest post is by Oleksandra Karavan, content marketing analyst.

How successful are bioenergy companies in using social media platforms to deliver a valuable content to their customers? See how this is done by the top bioenergy companies in social media penetration.

The benchmarking of the best bioenergy companies in social media is based on the ranking “The 50 Hottest Companies in Bioenergy for 2012-13” created by the world’s most widely read biofuels daily “Biofuels Digest”. The total reach of audience, in particular number of Facebook likes as well as Twitter and LinkedIn followers, is used as a major social media metric.

The screening of the world’s best bioenergy companies allowed to create the short list of five top companies in terms of social media penetration (21st of March, 2013). It included OriginOil, Novozymes, Solazyme, POET and Algenol Biofuels.

OriginOil, Novozymes, Solazyme, POET and Algenol Biofuels Social Media Metrics

OriginOil is considered the number one bioenergy company in social media penetration.  Six years later after the company founded its Facebook page, it has already thousands of likes in March 2013. The company successfully uses its Facebook account to share not only the news about the global bioenergy industry but also about its corporate life and events with public. The post “OriginOil CEO Interview on MoneyTV” has gained the record number of likes – 513. “The developer of a breakthrough energy production process for the oil & gas and algae industries” OriginOil always shares its valuable content such as articles, reports and pictures with its numerous Twitter followers.

Additionally to the successful Facebook and Twitter penetration, Novozymes has gained the record number of LinkedIn followers in bioenergy industry. The company uses its profile in the mentioned above professional network to inform users about their new products, corporate updates and, of course, career opportunities within the company.

Although Solazyme, POET and Algenol Biofuels have not reached the record numbers of followers as OriginOil and Novozymes did, these bioenergy companies are much more successful in social media penetration than their “rank peers”, and the number of their followers is growing further every day.

It is interesting to find out that after screening the fifty world’s best bioenergy companies, only five of them could serve a good example of how companies in bioenergy industry use social media platforms to spread a valuable content among stakeholders and target communities. Though informing and educating public through social media channels is extremely crucial for the bioenergy industry in general, this trend is not yet so popular among the companies and opens the window of opportunity for those who are trying to master it.
